English Podcasts

Hi guys!
This week we discovered the world of Podcasts..I had never heard them before, but now we have another mean of learning! I spent lot of time in the world of podcast and, at the end, I chose these three sites:
http://www.oculture.com/2006/10/foreign_languag.html
http://www.podcastsinenglish.com/
http://epnweb.org/
The first one contains lots of interesting material for the learning of English with audio files but the thing that I mostly like are "audiobooks". I think that they are very interesting and useful and one can put together his/her love for reading with his/her intention to improve his/her English.
The second one gives several podcasts on different topics and you can choose your level. However, it gives also worksheets, vocabulary tasks etc only for members.
The third has a great number of podcasts too and they are divided for level and subject. The negative thing is that, sometimes, some podcasts have problems and I could not listen to them. These podcasts are mostly created by teachers so, I think the quality is good.
In my opinion, podcasts are useful but they should be always followed by exercises on the text, so one could effectively check his/her skills.
That's all

Hey, Elisa. What's up? I had never heard anything about podcasts, either. Now I can say that I start appreciating them. Some of them are really interesting, while some others funny and entertaing. Well, I think we all found some boring and useless but I don't want to focus on them.
I visited the sites you chose for your post and they're all interesting. The one I loved more is the second one (podcastsinenglish.com), because it's quite complete and offers you many topics and files which are very useful to improve your skills. As you probably noticed, I chose that site, too. So, well done and see you soon. Bye, darling!

Hi Elisa!

How are you?

Even though you didn’t know what podcasts are, you immediately understood they are very important tools. Language learning is really changing, and we have the opportunity to find a lot of useful sources on the Internet!

You made me very curious about free audiobooks so I decided to see how they work. Maybe the site (‘oculture.com’) is a little bit confusing because it deals with many languages and it shows many links. Anyway, I searched for the audiobook section and I tried to listen to the first chapter of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. It was a nice experience! Listening to audiobooks instead of reading books can be a little bit odd at the beginning, but I think this is a great idea! You can listen to fluent and advanced English for free. Moreover, you can download audiobooks for free.
Thank you for advising me audiobooks!

Let me give you a few words of advice about grammar. You wrote ‘I have never heard them’ but this is wrong; you can write ‘I have never heard about them’ or ‘I have never listened to them’(there's a change in meaning). Moreover, you can’t write ‘the learning of English’; you have to write ‘English learning’. You also wrote ‘the word of podcast’ instead of ‘the world of podcasts’.
I hope you'll appreciate my comment!

See you!

Giovanna

Hi Elisa!

As I'm really short of time (soon they'll kick me out of the lab) I could only visit one of the podcasts you suggested. And this was the first one. I agree with you that it's really interesting to listen to stories, fiction, although it's quite unusual, isn't it? Maybe I will try some day!

Ok, I'm sorry my comment is so brief but it's really late.
See you!
